PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE:
The Hon Rene Le Miere KC accepts appointments as an arbitrator and mediator and as an expert.
As a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, for 18 years Mr Le Miere presided over numerous complex and heavy commercial cases. Mr Le Miere was the Senior Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court for 7 years before he retired from the Court in 2022.
Mr Le Miere was the judge in charge of the expedited list until it was succeeded by the Commercial and Managed Cases list where he presided over commercial, corporate, trust, defamation, construction and other major civil cases. Mr Le Miere oversaw the mesothelioma list for many years. Mr Le Miere sat from time to time on the Western Australian Court of Appeal and was a member of the Western Australian Industrial Appeal Court.
After practicing as a solicitor, Mr Le Miere joined the Western Australian Bar Association and as a barrister acted as an arbitrator and mediator and as counsel and advising in commercial, corporate, construction, and industrial matters. He was appointed Queens Counsel in 1993.
Mr Le Miere graduated with a Bachelor of Economics at the University of Western Australia, a Bachelor of Jurisprudence with honours, and a Bachelor of Laws with honours. Mr Le Miere was awarded the HCF Keall Prize in Law as the top student in the LLB and several other prizes.
Mr Le Miere is a former President of the Law Society of Western Australia and a Commissioner of the Law Reform Commission of Western Australia.
Mr Le Miere has been a member of the Governing Council of the Australian Judicial Officers Association and a member of the Chief Justices’ Rules Harmonisation Committee. He continues as a member of the Law Services Council Admissions Committee and the Law Admissions Consultative Committee.
